                Gem therapy is used as a form of healing and as solution to various problems predicted in horoscope by many people. Gem stones are believed to have some vibrations when matched to persons aura will change it. Mahrshi Parasara has discussed colors of various planets and their nature in every detail. So based on the color and nature of the planet the gem stones are suggested.

         The color of the Sun is a combination of orange and red. However, it is generally considered red in color. The Moon is pale white but it reflects the orange red rays of the Sun. Mars is of red color but it also reflects the yellow rays of the Sun. Mercury is of green color and reflects green rays. Jupiter is of orange-yellow color but reflects mainly blue rays of the spectrum. Venus is considered to be pure white but it also reflects indigo rays of the spectrum. Saturn is of black color and reflects violet rays of the Sun. 

        Associated with the sun is the RUBY,   with the moon is the PEARL,   with mars is the RED CORAL,   with mercury is the EMERALD,   with Jupiter is the YELLOW SAPPHIRE,   with Venus is the DIAMOND,   with Saturn is the BLUE SAPPHIRE,   with Rahu is the HESSONITE GARNET,   and with Ketu is the CAT’S EYE CHRYSOBERYL.

          So does gem stones have healing power? Yes they have healing powers says many studies and scientists. Does gem stones have power to solve your problems with horoscope? The simple answer is No. Neither Maharshi Parasara nor Brughu nadi suggest use of Gem stones to solve the problems in a horoscope. Astrology strongly advocates that a person is only (will only) experience karma. If it is predicted that you may have a rough patch or if you are already going through rough patch it can only be overcome by your actions. The remedies need to be performed by native (in his own efforts). Buying a stone and wearing it doesn’t solve any of the problems. There are many remedies suggested by Maharishi which involve Pooja (Prayer), Daana (Donation – not money always), Yagnya e.c.t, all of these are to be performed mostly by the native.

            Then where did this gemology come into astrology? Many believe that this has been induced by few selfish people to cheat people in distress and make money of it. None of the astrologer (who I know to have standards) prescribe gem stones. Astrologers who prescribe gem stones say, gem stones have vibrations which exalts or debilitate a planets strength. Even by this logic it doesn’t make any sense to wear navaratna ring (all nine gem stones), which simultaneously exalts and debilitate the planet to make neutral.

          If you are searching for remedies then there are many of them suggested by great sages which mostly doesn’t require money. You are still welcome to try these stones if you have money but don’t expect the results with these stones. There may be few people who say there have been changes in their life after wearing the stones, which is certainly due to other reasons but not for wearing gems. Same holds good with Rudraksha (Eka Mukhi, Pancha Mukhi, e.tc.), is not suggested as a remedy. Rudraksha has much higher purpose of awakening spiritual vibrations in you.
