      Vedic Astrology is an ancient science believed by many people in India, In-fact it is a deciding factor for many important decisions for Indians. First literary works on Astrology, Astronomy and other planetary studies in India can be dated back to 5000 B.C.  Most prominent work on Vedic Astrology as considered by several Astrologers till date is Parashara Hora Shastra (Written my Maharshi Parashara). 

       The sole purpose of this work is to apply the age old concepts of Vedic Astrology to modern day events. The rules and Predictive techniques hold good even in this day, only one need to be able to apply them appropriately to modern day events. Let’s consider a horoscope (Boy/ Girl) in which Gr (Jupiter) is in seventh house (Which Signifies arranged marriage - its needs still further analysis of a person’s horoscope to confirm this event) and in western world where arrange marriage is considered 18 century practice, how is this justified?  one should note that Gr (Jupiter) in Seventh house makes boy/girl to analyze their spouse (If they are financially well, well behaved and so on) and take a decision, their decision to marry is not purely emotional (love) driven.

         To be an Astrologer there are few qualities prescribed by our sages.

  శ్లో. అద్వేషీ నిత్యసంతుష్టః గణితాగమ పారగః। 

      ముహూర్తగుణ దోషజ్ఞో వాగ్మీ కుశలబుద్దిమాన్‌ ।। 

      శాంతశ్చామృతవాక్సౌమ్యః త్రికాలజ్ఞో జితేంద్రియః । 

      నిత్యకర్మరతో యో వై స దైవజ్ఞః ప్రకీర్తితః ।। 

          These verses summarizes qualities of an Astrologer. An Astrologer should be contended, expert in mathematics and should hold good knowledge of Time (Muhurtha), possess good communication, be a devotee, always peaceful and always mindful of his duty. Such an Astrologer is blessed by the goddess of Astrology (Goddess Saraswathi). 

        If there are events that have happened or happening in a different way than predicted by astrologer, remember he may not be fully capable (or mis-informed), but not the astrology.

It is also to be noted that one should apply astrology only in a progressive attitude, to alleviate from bad periods and to add support. To add to this lord sri rama and devi sita had a perfect marriage compatibility of 36 points, but still were separated apart can you guess why? it's because of karma (Actions in past).  

              Hinduism believes consequences in one's life is result of his karma and astrology just portrays those patterns. Neither your time of birth nor planetary positions during that time decide what you are going to be (or) going to face. Its your actions that in past that decides your future, your horoscope just predict the consequences.
